VIDEO JUNKEE AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED

The inaugural Video Junkee 2017 Festival took place over the weekend (July 28 – 29) and saw hundreds of video hungry content creators and lovers flock to an array of events, talks and screenings across Sydney.

The inaugural Video Junkee 2017 Festival took place over the weekend (July 28 – 29) and saw hundreds of video hungry content creators and lovers flock to an array of events, talks and screenings across Sydney.

Ahead of Yael Stone’s keynote address on the Friday evening, the inaugural Video Junkee Awards were held at Sydney’s Carriageworks. Awarded by the 2017 Creative Committee and presented by the duo Kristina Ross and Vanessa Buckley (from the Junkee Original Series Life Lessons), the Video Junkee awards celebrate outstanding achievements by a content creator or team in an online video or series.

There were three categories of awards:

The Newcomer Award celebrates and recognises the outstanding work of an emerging Australian video content creator or team for an online video or series. The Nominees were: Jasper Whincop for The Auditions, Season 2: Episode 3, Mad Kids for Mature Age Student and Jonathan Wilhelmsson for Waltzing Tilda. Jonathan Wilhelmsson was awarded the winner in this category.

The Breakthrough Award celebrates and recognises the outstanding work of a talented Australian video content creator or team for an online video or series.The Nominees were: Tanya Hennessy for Tanya Hennessy, Alan Tsibulya for Alan Tsibulya, and Pippa Mills, Helena Ruse and Andrew Mills for The Leftovers The Winner: Tanya Hennessy  was awarded the winner in this category.

The Video Junkee of the Year Award celebrates and recognises the outstanding work of an established Australian video content creator or team for an online video or series. The Nominees were: BEN CRISP, Brendon Skinner, Simon Williams and Kirsty Stark for Goober Theo and Nathan Saidden for Superwog Hannah and Eliza Reilly for Growing Up Gracefully. Theo and Nathan Saidden were awarded the winner in this category.

Created so lovers, creators and consumers of video could hear from the leaders in the industry, the jam-packed program included a Real Housewives panel from Foxtel, a screening of Round the Twist presented by two of the actors who played Bronson, a cat café from YouTube, and special presentations from the cast of Wentworth, Orange is the New Black’s Yael Stone and Bojack Horseman Creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg.

Video Junkee 2017 is created by Junkee Media and presented with the support of Strategic Sponsor Destination NSW, the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency.
