TROP JR ANNOUNCES FINALISTS and JUDGES FOR 2017

RED DOG: TRUE BLUE and PLAYSCHOOL star Justine Clarke appointed Head of Jury for 9th annual TROP JR

Sixteen budding Australian filmmakers from all over the country have been selected as the finalists for the 9th annual TROP JR short film festival, set to take place at Parramatta Park’s The Crescent Live on Friday 10th February at 6pm.

The world’s largest short film festival for kids, by kids, is now a stand alone event and will see the finalists, including four time TROP JR finalist Darwin Schulze screen their handpicked works inspired by the TROP JR Signature Item, which this year is Mask.

The winning film will be decided by a judging panel led by Head of Jury, Justine Clarke (Red Dog: True Blue, TV’s Playschool) who said, “I am so pleased to once again be a part of TROP JR and can’t wait to see the finalists’ films. It is such an exciting thing to witness the future of the Australian screen industry getting out there and making films that families can enjoy together!”

Her Jury includes; Angourie Rice (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Jasper Jones, The Nice Guys), Hunter Page-Lochard (Bran Nue Dae, The Sapphires, Cleverman), Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople), Karan Brar (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Pacific Rim: Uprising), and Yianni Rowlands (last year’s winner of Trop Jr).

A wide range of entertaining films suitable for the whole family will be on show, from claymation to documentary.

From 6pm the TROP JR audience is set to enjoy captivating tales, which include an astronaut who has a rather tough time getting home after a Martian steals his ‘Rover’ (Rover); a young man who travels back in time to 100 years ago (About Time); two friends who go head to head for the ultimate pizza job (A Week To Deliver); and a story of acceptance, bullying and standing up for what you believe in (Buddies not Bullies).

The finalists, aged between 9 – 15 years, will see their short films screen to a live audience at TROP JR and TROPFEST’s new home of Sydney’s Parramatta Park, hosted by Toasted TV’s Ollie Mac and Elly Awesome.

Following the announcement of the winning TROP JR short film, guests will be treated to a free screening of Golden Globe award-winning film BABE.
