The re-imagined Short+Sweet Film Festival is back in Sydney from 12–14 May, showcasing more than 70 fresh short films over three exciting nights, featuring the best local and international talent.
This cinematic counterpart to “the biggest little theatre festival in the world” has already made a global splash, with Short+Sweet Hollywood among its annual international events. The festival brings a diverse lineup of bold, original films spanning genres including Comedy, Horror, Animation, Documentaries and Experimental works, spotlighting both emerging filmmakers and established industry professionals.
Festival Director Luke Berman expressed particular pride in providing young creatives with a professional platform to debut their films alongside seasoned peers. Highlighting the next generation of filmmakers, the festival includes two dedicated sessions; one showcasing the creative work of youth and students through the Department of Education and the other focused on emerging filmmakers through TAFE NSW. “This is about nurturing creativity, building confidence, and empowering young filmmakers. What stories can they tell in 10 minutes? There are no limits, other than their imagination!” said Berman.
Conveniently scheduled between the Short+Sweet Theatre Festival’s semifinals and gala finals, the film screenings will be hosted at Turner Hall, Ultimo:
• Monday 12 May: 5:30pm (Department of Education session) and 8pm (Open Division)
• Tuesday 13 May: 6:30pm (Youth & Student Films) and 8:30pm (Open Division)
• Wednesday 14 May: 7pm (Film Gala Final)
Short+Sweet Film uniquely gives filmmakers the opportunity to be considered for multiple international S+S festivals with just one submission, significantly increasing their exposure and opportunities for global screenings. This expanding global network welcomes filmmakers from every imaginable genre and supports talent ranging from experienced professionals to emerging artists.
The festival culminates on May 14 with industry judges and audiences selecting winners across multiple categories, including Best Film, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Student Film.
