Forgotten gods do battle in the back alleys of modern America - what's not to love?

Bryan Fuller is off Star Trek: Discovery: bummer.

Bryan Fuller is adapting Neil Gaiman’s American Gods: What’s a Star Trek?

The trailer for the upcoming Starz series American Gods is here and, holy heck, if this one doesn’t excite you, you may be more in need of a priest than a god. The source novel is one of the great works of modern fantasy (although not a patch on Sandman, also by Gaiman), following the exploits of recently paroled convict Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle in the TV series) as he is drawn into a war between old gods and new that takes him across the length and breadth of America. Employed by the mysterious Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane, heck yes), Shadow needs to figure out if he’s been charged with saving the world or ending it.

Fuller is a master visual stylist – go take a run at Hannibal again if you don’t believe us – and he’s dabbled in modern fantasy before with his series Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, and Wonderfalls, so it’s pretty much a perfect match of show runner and material. Add in a supporting cast that includes Emily Browning, Crispin Glover, Gillian Anderson, and Peter Stormare, and this is pretty much a must see.

The eight episode first season of American Gods debuts in the US on April 30. No word of an Australian airdate yet, but surely some ambitious streaming service will be negotiating the rights as we speak…
