Bryan Brown Signs on for Kriv Stenders’ Australia Day

August 11, 2016
New feature shoots in Brisbane from August 22.

Australian acting legend Bryan Brown will star alongside Shari Sebbens, Sean Keenan, Matthew Le Nevez, Jenny Wu, Daniel Weber, Elias Anton, Isabelle Cornish and Phoenix Raei in Australia Day, a new feature written by Stephen M. Irwin (Secrets & Lies) and directed by Kriv Stenders (Red Dog). The film is a co-production between Foxtel and Hoodlum.

Plot details at this point are sketchy. Speaking to if, Foxtel Head of Drama Penny Win described the film as “…showing Australia Day from the other side. It’s about an Australian farmer, a Chinese illegal immigrant, a Persian family and an Indigenous girl. The structure of it is very like Crash. These characters intersect but they don’t know each other. It’s about taking a stand.”

Brown previously appeared in Stenders’ WA-shot Kill Me Three Times. Interestingly, Stenders had previously directed the hard-hitting one-shot feature Boxing Day, though we doubt whether he is becoming Australia’s version of the recently departed Garry Marshall, who made a habit out of making films themed around holidays.
